Foolish Snow Fairy is my playful poetry project. In the summer of 2025, I started bringing my typewriters and tarot cards to community events, asking anyone with five minutes to spare to answer some questions and pull a card. I’ve found this process, which I now refer to as poetry portraits, to be one of the most illuminating and strangely intimate creative practices I’ve come across so far. In whatever amount of time I am given (anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or two), I try to get to know enough about someone to be able to pull something out of my sleeve that will make them feel seen, heard, and hopefully a little bit understood. It is an extremely gratifying process, and I love being allowed the smallest peek into a stranger’s life.

In public settings (like the recent Bug Ball at the Mushroom Factory), I offer two choices: the Chickadee (a smaller, bite-sized poem) for $5 - $10, and the Puffin (longer, on finer stationary, and a bit more in-depth) for $15 - $20. For private poetry sessions, I offer one-hour meetings for $50. These are much more comfortable for me, given the space to have a full conversation with someone and give them the opportunity to speak more freely about whatever is on their mind. Many people say it feels like therapy, or like talking to a friend. No matter the setting or the size of the poem, though, I will always be present with my subject and lean on my intuition about who they are and what the tarot cards say about them. This typically goes very well.
